Game review: Sniper Elite Resistance (2025)

This article was originally (partially) a thread on social media, which is why it is formatted with lots of images and short responses.
The text is about the image below that paragraph.

Disclaimer: I got a free copy of the game but could write whatever I wanted and I did.

This is one of the games in the Sniper Elite series that I’ve enjoyed playing for many years.
This time we fight even more behind enemy lines as an SOE agent working together with the French Resistance.
That’s very much my cup of tea.

The trailer:

If you’ve played SE before, you sort of know what you’re going to get. There’s nothing very new or different about this release; you get to sneak around, shoot lots of Nazis, blow up stuff, except this time you get to play as a Brit working for the SOE:

So if you enjoyed the earlier games in the franchise you’ll enjoy this one, but there’s nothing really new or different compared to those other games, you’re just getting a bunch of new gorgeous maps to play and that’s fine by me.

I mean, who wouldn’t like to combine shooting nazis with a lovely visit to a nice old French town like this?

Someone at Rebellion really likes putting old faded advertisements on walls and I love them for it:

I’ve got a thing for the wireless sets of that era, so every time I spotted one I had to check it out. I want these in real life:

But I’m not so sure about the date on this one, it’s giving me post war vibes:

I love game maps that make me think “I’m coming back here after the war for a holiday.”;

Paris during the war… alas… can you spot what’s wrong with this picture?

Look again, what’s wrong here?

There was a blackout during the war in pretty much every city, town & village in Europe.
No lights were to be seen because they helped enemy bombers navigate.
The map might look less pretty in the dark, but it sure would make it more exciting & authentic to play and more historically accurate:

A few nice things I spotted: GORGEOUS cast iron range that I want in real life:

And a bouncing bomb, which I of course shot at;

Also a gorgeous medieval arch:

I sure do love U-boots:

Always wanted to play with a plot table:

Love old labels & packaging:

Yes, I’d totally go on holiday there:

Slicing the pie:

Day trip to a chateau, with shooting nazis as a planned activity:

A V1 rocket! I heard the distinctive sound and automatically looked up:

And yes, we get gruesome detailed see-through slow motion vision of bullets entering Nazis, again.
It somehow doesn’t get boring, which probably says a bit too much about me:

Me with a V-1 in the game:

And me with a V-1 in real life, yes that is really me:

LIGHTS OFF!

Of course I couldn’t resist the DLC that allows you to shoot Hitler himself during his visit to a film studio:

So more of the same as in the other SE games, but still fun.
I enjoy exploring well made historical worlds developers create for us and generally the historical setting in this game was pretty good.
And now I’ve finished the campaign I can do it again but with the avatar that looks a bit more familiar:

Of course I still wish there was a good WW2 1st person resistance game perhaps set in the Netherlands.
Cycle past checkpoints, sabotage trains, hide people, smuggle stuff, espionage, eliminate traitors in brought day light, in busy streets, Amsterdam canals, Rijksmuseum roof, the whole Englandspiel drama, etc.
Yes if anyone at Rebellion is reading this… go make this game!
